MELIKGAZI MUNICIPALITY ESTABLISHES SOLAR POWER PLANT WITH EU GRANT
10 May 2024

Melikgazi Municipality has added another investment to its renewable energy resources.

With the grant support received from the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) of Lithuania, through the European Union, Melikgazi Municipality has completed the installation of the Solar Power Plant.

The completion of the project was celebrated with a ceremony attended by the Vice President of the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) of Lithuania, Ms. Rasa Surau?ien?, Team Leader Ms. Daiva Matonien?, International Expert Ms. Jovita Ramanauskait?, and Mr. Valius Serbenta. Commending our municipality for the swift and successful completion of the project, the delegation expressed their congratulations and gratitude to Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, emphasizing that the project sets an example for other municipalities.

In his remarks about the project, Mayor Palancıoğlu stated: "We increasingly feel the effects of climate change as a society day by day. Rising temperatures, excessive rainfall, and seasonal imbalances impose important duties on us to prevent them. The solar power plant we have completed with our project is yet another significant step we have taken to protect the climate. In this regard, I wish the completed project to bring auspicious and prosperous outcomes to our Melikgazi.

"We are benefiting from renewable energy sources with the solar power plant."

President Palancıoğlu stated that within the scope of "The Solar City Project," it is planned to utilize renewable energy sources even more effectively with the establishment of the solar power plant. He mentioned, "With the installation of a 127kWp capacity plant on the roof of the municipal service building and in the parking area, the municipality's solar energy plant has been increased to 3500kWp capacity. As part of the project, an Electric Vehicle Charging Station has also been installed to meet the charging needs of next-generation electric vehicles like TOGG. The energy consumed by the charging station is planned to be met by solar panels as well. This way, the electricity generated from the sun is made available for the use of next-generation electric vehicles. A unique initiative was undertaken to expand the use of solar-generated electricity in various areas and to serve as a model. In this context, solar panels were used to meet the electricity needs of one of the irrigation systems used by Melikgazi Municipality for agricultural irrigation."

Palancıoğlu also mentioned that in order to increase the use of electric vehicles in municipal services, an electric waste collection vehicle has been purchased and put into service for Melikgazi. He emphasized that Melikgazi will continue its investments and services that will add value to the city without slowing down.
